NorthWest Initaitive provides a variety of emergency and basic needs services to low income residents primarily living in the northside, westside, and downtown neighborhoods of Lansing and Lansing Township (zip codes of 48906, 48915, 48917-east of Waverly Rd., and 48933).  Those include weekly free food distribution program, helping residents to sign up for health coverages, social services assistance through MDHHS, utility assistance, housing, free cell phones, coordination of the Weekend Survival Kit Program/Lansing, referrals to other agencies that can further help a resident, and much more.   We also provide empowerment programming to help lift our families out of poverty including help with finding jobs, resume development, job skills training, ex-offender assistance, financial literacy classes, monthly cooking classes, Lansing Mobile Farmers Market, and more.

For the past two years, NWI has served as the Fiduciary for the Mayor's Neighborhood Grants and the LOVE Lansing Inc. celebration.  We are actively taking the lead on the Sugar Reduction Coalition through a technical assistance grant that NWI received from Harvard Law School's Food Law & Policy Clinic.
